MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY (MD)
Muscular Dystrophy encompasses a group of over forty neuromuscular diseases, all of which have different symptoms and prognoses. Some of these strike at birth while others may not develop symptoms until adulthood. Anyone could be diagnosed with a form of MD at any time.
Our character Dru in "Living Now" has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy otherwise known as DMD.
This genetic disorder develops due to a lack of dystrophin production in the body. Dystrophin is a protein that "feeds" the muscles when they become tired. Without dystrophin, muscles weaken over time and the disease eventually results in respiratory failure.
There is currently no treatment or cure for DMD nor many of the other forms for Muscular Dystrophy.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Our latest film, "Project Hope aka REMEMBER ISOBEL," tells the tale of a family losing a loved one to Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is a progressive and fatal brain disease. As many as 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing memory loss and problems with thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal. Today it is the 7th leading cause of death in the US.
Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 50% to 80% of dementia cases.
This disease does not only affect the elderly. Experts estimate that some 500,000 people in their 30s, 40s and 50s have Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
There is no known cure for Alzheimer's.
For more information about Alzheimer's, click here visit the Alzheimer's Association website.
Millions of people continue to be painfully affected by these diseases every day. This is why it is so important that people become involved in whatever way they can. To find out how you can help, see our Get Involved page.
